Hi, I'm Warren and this is my story...

It all started way back in May 1986, with a desire to be a signwriter and in Dad's words I was "allowed to leave school if I had a job" and so began my 'stepping stone' career into the 'rag trade'!

It's hard to believe that was the last job interview I had. I was wearing my Roncalli school uniform!

Working for Camerons, I was pleasantly surprised to discover there was a lot more to this trade for a fresh faced, very 'green' 16 year old, than what I first thought. Junior salesman, intermediate buyer, store manager and finally business owner - nothing like learning the ropes from the ground up!

Fast forward 38 years to The Menswear Timaru and I'm still passionately enjoying the challenging, but mostly rewarding, and very satisfying role of a menswear retail clothing store owner ('rag trader').

LIKES

• serving multiple generations of families
• a customer's genuine appreciation and noticeable positive change in body language, when truly 'chuffed' with a new outfit chosen

CHALLENGES

• bookwork! It's a necessary task, but often one I procrastinate on! Thank goodness for my dear wife Beth, who has the expertise and is more than happy to help (plus give me a 'gentle' nudge when needed along the way!)
• OCD - it's O.K if the hangers instore aren't evenly spaced all the time! 

As a proud born and bred Timaruvian, along with my wife Beth (an ex Aucklander who is an absolute convertee) and our two gorgeous children - we love calling Timaru home. I enjoy meeting all walks of people and get a lot of satisfaction in selling and creating long-lasting relationships with our customers (who often become friends).  Plus... I'm still 10 years too young to get the pension!

What a ride it's been and I can honestly say that I'm happy my 'temporary' job choice at 16 has well and truly become a life-long career!
